The Thunder Rolls

Run: 7 miles, push ups, sit ups

I spent today on the treadmill partially due to a thunderstorm outside, but partially in order to keep myself under control and to give my legs a nice, flat surface to recover from the last couple of days. When I run on the treadmill I generally listen to music, which I really enjoy doing (I haven't given in to listening to music when running outside; I still deem that to be a yuppie thing to do--but as more and more of my favorite runners seem to do it (Ryan Hall, Josh Cox), I am not opposed to giving it a try, especially once I move to Richmond and am running in the city every day). I kept the pace very easy (8:00/mile), and it felt very relaxed. The major pain about running on the treadmill is the amount that I sweat: I get SO WET (that's what she said...). The combination of my headphones, the ungodly amount of sweat I'm producing, and the general confines of being on the treadmill can make things uncomfortable at times. Not to mention that my body heat turns the room I am running in into a sauna. Anyway, by the time I was finished, I was ready to be finished. My legs felt fine, but I was definitely ready to get off.

My run yesterday went surprisingly well given my 14 mile run the day before. My legs felt fairly strong, and (perhaps the best news) I didn't feel any of the aches or pains I've been enduring over the past couple of weeks (knee, foot). It was pretty hot outside so that made things a little bit uncomfortable, but otherwise things went well.

Max and I had a good discussion about my training future in Richmond. He passed along some info about possible places to run and workout, and offered to put me in touch with some friends of his who train in the area. Training in Richmond is going to be a pretty interesting task for me to undertake. As long as I can find places to run it will be fine-- I am a little worried that I may not be able to find great places to get in 80 mpw though. Still, as I conveyed to Max, it is simply a matter of doing what needs to be done. If I want to run 80 miles per week, I will, no matter what the circumstances. Wish me luck because I move in 7 days...
