Run: 8.5 miles (1:07), 21 pull-ups (5, 8, 8), 100 push ups, 200 crunch reps
So here are a few observations about getting back into a serious training regimen on only Day 2 of said regimen:
1. Doing lunges makes your quads extremely sore when you have not been doing them regularly. I really didn't feel exactly how sore I was until the last few miles of my run today, but definitely realized just how much my legs hurt at that point.
2. Doing ANY exercises you have not been doing regularly makes you extremely sore, especially when you get up in the morning and do them AGAIN. At around the same time I was realizing how sore my legs were, I was also feeling the same sensation over the entire rest of my body -- calves, abs, lats, back. It pretty much sucked!
3. Running in Virginia when it has been raining for the past week = humidity and wetness everywhere. This leads to bugs which are annoying. It also just leads to a disgusting feeling outside. The humidity is always there in the summer, but the damp, nasty air is a special treat brought on by the rain. It also brings on pools of standing water in the woods that breed disgusting things (and poison ivy). The humidity, which has only recently come around, is also a wonderful obstacle to overcome for my respiratory system. So fun.
Anyway, these are observations that I have made many times in the past, so nothing revolutionary. The great thing about being into fitness is that I expect this when I'm getting back into training. This allows me to push through the tough week or so when my body is sore, because I know it will go away. Unfortunately, many other people do not expect it and allow it to deter them from continuing. So sad. The beautiful thing about the human body+ physiology/exercise is that it is able to adapt. You just have to give it a chance to.
